Archbishop Alfred George Edwards, first Primate of the Church of Wales, died at St. Asaph, North Wales, recently at the age of 88. As Bishop of St. Asaph he took a foremost part in the long, bitter struggle against disestablishment of the Welsh Church, and fought to the last against Nonconformist agitation for the Church's separation from the State. When disestablishment did come after the World War he took a,leading part in shaping the new constitution of the Welsh Church, and was unanimously elected Archbishop of Wales in 1920, a position he filled; until his retirement in 1934.
