KARORI BEAT WANCANUI
A Wanganui senior eleven fully ex- ] tended a senior Karori team art Karori ; Park. JTbe ground was vsry heavy, but . the standard of hockey was creditable. Karori'won 3-2. Wanganui fielded a strong team; it contained about seven • members of the side which won the Norden Cup this season and which has successfully defended it since. The , visitors showed aggressiveness at the outset, and Ransom, following a neat . forward movement, opened their score. ' 1 Karori, who appeared more at home on the soggy ground, had a fairly long ■ i spell on attack, and finally Hull scored. ' I Wanganui gave little away, but owing ( to' erratic stickwork at times they missed several good opportunities. M. Browne, with a nice shot, shortly before half-time, gave Karori a lead of one goal. Owing to No. 7 ground being thoroughly churned up, the players , transferred to No. 8 for the second half, ' but it was not long before this ground, too, was like a quagmire. Play as a result became ragged and there was little fine passing owing to the necessity to hit hard. Honours were fairly i even in this spell, although Karori Showed more initiative,. Wanganui : had good combination, but they were inclined to be over-eager. Ransom equalised for the visitors with a splendid shot, but Nimmo scored the winning goal for Karori after the local team had been hammering at their opponents' gpal for some time. Wanga- ] nui played a sound game, and it is a pjty that they were handicapped by the unfavourable ground conditions. Messrs. W. Predge and Cross , (Nanier) were' the umpires.
