MUCH DAMAGE DONE

HEAVY LOSS OF LIFE FEARED

HONG KONG, September 1,

Considerable loss of life is feared as a result of • a typhoon which struck ' Hong Kong at two o'clock in the morning. The harbour was crowded with shipping, including vessels sheltering from the Japanese blockade, and heavy damage is reported. The. steamer On Lee (1026 tons) was piled up, and the Government tug Kausing (379 tons) Is missing.

Many Chinese watermen were rescued from the harbour.
