MIDNIGHT FIRE
A NARROW ESCAPE
Four fatalities occurred In a fire which broke out in a house at Eastbourne shortly before midnight last night, a Pomeranian dog and three pups being burnt to death. Fortunately the occupants of the house, a man and two women, were aroused in time, but they were forced to make a hurried exit in their night attire, the house being almost completely destroyed, together with practically all its contents.
The house was situated at 12 Manuka Terrace, and was occupied by Mr. James Roy Maddock and his wife and mother. The property was partly owned by the Mazzola estate, but it is understood that there was no insurance on the occupiers' property. It was 11.55 p.m. when the fire was discovered, and although the Eastbourne 3rigade was summoned, the house was almost completely burned. It is thought that a defective chimney was the cause of the blaze.
