SLIGHT DAMAGE

SERIES OF EARTHQUAKES

CITIES NEAR SAN FRANCISCO

(Received March 10, 9 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, March 9. A series of earthquakes which occurred over a period of four hours broke windows, toppled chimneys, and unshelved merchandise in stores in the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Alameda, Albany, and Richmond. No one was injured. Hurried inspections of two huge bridges in San Francisco Bay revealed that they were not damaged. The earthquake is estimated to have been half as strong as the devastating earthquake of 1906. A slight earthquake , twenty-four hours later was felt in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan, West Virginia, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Ontario.
