CANADA BEATS ENGLAND

LONDON, February 27,

Wild scenes occurred in the world ice hockey championship between England and Canada, because of the action of the referee in sendng off a British player. The incensed crowd hurled pennies, oranges, apples, programmes, and newspapers on the ice. yelling "We want a referee."

The game was delayed while an official appealed to the spectators through a microphone. "The British players request you behave like British sportsmen." The disorder continued until the band played the National Anthem. Canada won 3-0.
