WAIWETU CLUB
' The annual meeting of the Waiwctu Golf Club was heliS last week. There !was a good attendance of members. '■ The annual report showed that the •club, had a very successful season, membership being fully maintained. Competitions had, as usual, been, well (Supported, and the trophy winners ■came from short and long handicap players in equal shares.' The condition of the course was' first-class. Finances showed a sound position; Although a small loss was shown on the years working. The report stated that the club was represented at the New Zealand championships for the first time. ,ahd K. G. Holland was congratulated on reaching the amateur semi-final. .■ The following office-bearers for the coming season were elected:—President, Mr. E. P. Yaldwin; vice-presi-dents, Messrs. B. A. H. Barker, T.-E. .Mawby;' patroness. Mrs. R. C. Kirk; ■club captain; Mr. N. O. Maitland; hon. auditor, Mr. "W. J. Muhro; committee, Messrs..T. J. Harvey,' T. P. Davis, R .G.-Holland, W. F. Gill, and G. R. Millward; hon. secretary, Mr. W. C. Greg:ory;. Hon. treasurer, Mr. F. K. MacDuriiig the weekend final rounds on 1 the Waiwetu Club's old links at WaiIwetu were played and a' large number of players took part in the com■netitions arranged. After having been in. occupation of the links for upwards of twenty-five years, the club had. to make way'for kindred sports bodies using the area and has now moved to its- new. quarters, at .Whakitiki, where everything is in good trim for the opening of the new season during-this "^Stableford bogey competition was won by J. B. Wallace with 31, 5—36 and a dual Stableford in the ladies section was won by Mrs. fmerre and Miss Stephens. In the final of the farewell knock-out, played over 18 holes; T. J. Harvey beat A. G. Stunell, 2 and 1. after an even tussle. The links at Whakitiki are now in very good order and with the club house nearing completion members will be assured of ideal playing conditions and will welcome the change from their old congested area with its many drawbacks.
