HAGEN AND KIRKWOOD
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, February 28. An exhibition golf match played at Middlemorc on Saturday afternoon between Walter Hagen and Joe iv.irKwood finished all square after Hagen led 1 up at the turn. Both went round lnAithcugh only off the ship the previous day, the visitors gave a very interesting display, many excellent recoveries from bad lies and bunkers earning frequent applause. Kirkwood1 subsequently delighted the crowd with an exhibition of comedy and trick shots, accompanied by amusing patter.
With all the millions of golfers throughout the world there is only one with the mastery of trick shots that makes Joe Kirkwood's exhibition games such displays of golf wizardry. Only Kirkwood can impart ten-foot back-spin to a ball, jump stymies with unerring accuracy, bury a ball in the turf, and send it two hundred yards down the fairway with a brassy, and perform the many other magical feats which have made him famous throughout the world. Ranking in equal importance to golfers are the exhibition games of Walter Hagen, acknowledged to be the greatest golfer of all time.- On Friday next at Miramar Hagen and Kirkwood will play an exhibition match against A. J. Shaw and R. C. Butters.
