OBITUARY

MR. J. A. PLIMMER

-Mr. John A. Plimmer, who was born in Wellington ninety years ago and was associated with the city practically all his life, died at his residence, Boxhill, Khandallah, on Saturday.. ■".

The late Mr. Plimmer was the first son born to his pioneer parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. John Plimmer, after their arrival in Wellington. He was educated at Mrs. Finnem'ore's school and entered the Customs Department when a young man, serving at Lyttelto'n for some years. He returned to Wellington to commence business as a flour, grain, and shipping merchant, under the name of Plimmer, Reeves and Company, and for many years the business had a store in Customhouse Quay on the site now occupied by the \Bank, of Australasia. The partnership was eventually dissolved and -Mr. Plimmer started the Wellington Tinware Company, which he continued for many years with the assistance of his son, the late- Mr. Rodney Plimmer. The later years of his life before his retirement were given to the management of his father's interests, and numerous other commercial matters in which he was interested.

For many years Mr. Plimmer resided off Boulcott, Street,,behind St. Mary of the Angels' Church, but he' acquired a property at Khandallah about twentyfive years ago and made a'fine home there. He was always keenly interested in bowling and was at one time president of the Wellington Bowling Club. When he made his home at Khandallah he was one.of the prime movers in the establishment of the club there, .and maintained his interest in the' game and the activities of the club until recent years. Mr. Plimmer was always interested in music and took part in musical activities in Christchurch and Wellington, and was at different times a member of the choirs of St. Mark's and St. Peter's Churches, and was also a member of the old Wellington Liedertafel.

Mr. Plimmer was twice married, but the only member of his family to survive him is his daughter, Miss Gertrude Plimmer; There are eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The funeral took place this morning.
