The death has.occurred of Mr. Wil-. liam Montgomery, aged 97, the oldest resident of Napier.. Mr. Montgomery was born in Banff shire,. Scotland, on September 9, 1839, and' came to New Zealand at the age of twenty. He took up his residence in Napier in 1866 and had resided, here ever since. Mr. Montgomery carried mails between Napier and Waipawa before the railway was constructed. He was singularly fortunate regarding his health and received his first medical account on his ninety-third birthday.

For his second offence of drunkenness, Henry Barrett, a butcher, aged 38, was convicted and discharged by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court today.
