GAINING HEALTH

PHYSICAL CULTURE DISPLAY

A tribute to the increasing interest in the cult of good health was given by the enthusiastic audience who attended the annual demonstration of physical culture given by Miss Marion Todd and her pupils on Wednesday night at St. Francis Hall. The programme opened with a group of general toning exercises showing what could be done to keep the body supple and how to correct any figure faults. This was followed by a series of very beautiful movements specially designed to give grace and poise to the body. "Who's Who at the Zoo" was a popular and amusing item given by the children.

The "Idol Group," fencing exercises, and "West Wind" series demonstrated several of the different methods of keeping fit by appealing to the individual taste of the pupils. . Another interesting item, was given, by eight girls dressed in very vivid costumes and done from a reclining position. A beautiful interpretation of the "Blue Danube" was given—the girls wearing graceful blue frocks with circular swinging skirts, there being special lighting.for this item. A group of relaxations exercises \ very soothing in their effect and particularly suitable for older women was demonstrated by Miss Todd, and an illustration, of how flexible the body can> become was illustrated by four girls." '"Carnival," the final item, was an example of the lighter side of physical culture life showing that not only do the girls benefit from the many and varied exercises but that they I enjoy them as a form of recreation. , The costumes and lighting effects were very effective throughout, and on quite a number of occasions the audience showed their appreciation by calling for encores.
