EAST END INCIDENTS
ANNOUNCEMENT PENDING
(British Official Wireless.) (Received October 21, 11.50 a.m.)
RUGBY, October 20. >•
In connection with the recent disturbances in,the East End of London arising out of Fascist demonstrations, the Home Secretary, accompanied by the Minister of Health and the, Parliamentary Under-Secretary for the Home Department, today received a deputation which urged on the Government the gravity of the situation and the rjsk of its becoming worse unless immediate steps were taken to apply remedial measures. ■'-..:. ■ An official statement says: 'The Home Secretary thanked the deputation for coming to see him and took the opportunity of obtaining a fuller explanation of the proposals which the deputation desired to make. -The deputation could be assured that the Gov.ernment was giving immediate and careful consideration to the difficult problems involved, but he was not, of course, in a position to anticipate an announcement to Parliament of the Government's intentions." V Newspapers anticipate that the whole question raised by the recent events in East London and affecting the rights of assembly and free speech and the use of uniforms by party political organisations will be reviewed by Cabinet-be-fore Parliament reassembles, probably at tomorrow's meeting. ; An early announcement in Parliament of the Government's decision is forecast. ■
