AT KARORI PARK
: .Many cricketers attended Karori 'Park'and,-for the Karori Cricket Club it was opening day, there being a large attendance of members and friends. Among, those who visited the ground1 during the afternoon were Messrs. J. IL Phillipps and J. S. Hanna, of the Wellington Cricket Association. The area was in good trim and the cricketers made as much use of it as possible in getting ready for championship play. One .of the principal events was a match between University and Karori elevens. University joining with Karori in hav-. ing their opening day at the ground. AU present, players and spectators, were the guests of the Karori Club at afternoon tea. A welcome to all was extended by Mr. J. Russell, the Karori club captain, who expressed the hope that all would have a most enjoyable season. Mr. J. H. Phillipps, chairman of the Wellington Cricket Association, joined with Mr.. Kussell in declaring the season open, and he prophesied that, as there would be only one Plunket Shield match in Wellington, the season, with weather such as that experienced today, would be more free from breaks than was the case last season. The prospects looked good, and he wished all a happy and successful season's cricket. . . :..■■■
In the practice matches the participants each had a limited time at the crease, but many of them returned good figures. .
