SENIOR GRADE
TALENT IN PLENTY
Midland this season will have plenty of players to keep their senior eleven at good strength! Keating (last year's coach), Will, of course, be an absentee, but Tindill (who was away for the greater part of last season with the All Blacks) will be on deck, and he and Dustin should be good for some fine partnerships. Then, too, there will be Crawford, O'Neill, Randall, Osborn, Bezzant, McCawe, Bryant, Jack, Buddie, Fay, Cleverley, and others. It appears doubtful whether J. Newman
will be playing. . ' ■ ■.■ : . Wellington's material is again good, with,T.C. Lowry as a notable addition. H. D. Smith (who has represented New Zealand, Otago, and Canterbury) may be seen in a game or two. Whytej Foley,-Ell, Morgan, Blundell, Thomas, Meech, Mallard, McDonald, Airey, and others are again on hand, though Airey may again go into lower grade cricket. Monteath is back from Hutt, and at his best would be in the first eleven! Symes will be missed; he is now in Nelson. / *: Hutt's ranks are quite strong. McLeod will again be one of the leading lights, and Ross, Aim, Champness, Kemp, Stehr, and company should also be keeping the flag flying. It is not known whether Ernie .Judd will be adding to bis fine record in senior cricket. Clark, a South Auckland representative, is one; of the new candidates for the senior team, but Blamires will W with ICilbirnie and Tattersall engaged • elsewhere. v Kilbirnie will be without Handscomb (who has, gone to the West Coast) and Marshall (who is joining the R.A.F.),' but with the two Wards, Bam, Christpphersen (if he decides, as he should do, to keep , going in senior cricket), Parsloe, Rice, Wilson, Turnbull, Ashenden, Wrigley, Truscotf(from Cahierbury), Allen, Hatchard, Hepburn, Broit (from Sydney), and Rowe (from Marlborough) and others, there will be ample material for a good senior side.
Wellington College Old Boys wiH probably have much the same side as last season, and there is hope of better form from them. The Lamasons, Browne, dv Chateau, McGuire, Burnette, Wareham, Rainbird, Lees, Griffiths, Bird, and company should combine in.lorming quite a good side. University are expected to return better figures than was the, case last season. There is any amount of the right material—Blandford, Tricklebank, Stevens, Wiren, Dean, Vietmeyer, Edgeley, Harpur, Harding, Paetz, Connell, and others are players who should extend opposing sides. Last season's experience of senior cricket should serve Karori well, and players like Hollings, Rowe, the Brownes, Cutts, Standidge, Keenan, McDonald, King, and Macdonald should improve upon their figures, though all may not be in the first eleven, for which Cooper, McGavin, and some others are strong candidates.
■. Institute Old Boys, back in senior' grade, are out to justify the confidence placed in them. They wiil have the McLeans,1 Scott, Fortune, Bilby, and [ others who have done well for them in past seasons, with some notable additions, including Montgomery (from iWairarapa), O'Keefe (from Manawatu), Burke (from Karori), and Crook (exWellington representative). .
