CLUB OPENINGS

Three of the major Wellington lawn tennis clubs officially opened their 1936-37 season on Saturday afternoon. The opening ceremony at the Wellington Club was performed by the club's president (Dr. Slater), who.congratulated the club on its championship successes. Prizes for last season's events were presented by Mrs. Slater. Miss K. Nunneley served the first ball. Mr! W. Morgan, the club's vice-presi-dent, officiated at the Newtowh Club opening, and was introduced by Mr. L. H. Pollock, chairman of the,management committee. In the' evening a dinner and dance were held in the tennis pavilion* Miramar, prizes being presented by Mr. F. H. Watley. Mr. A. W. Cooper, club captain, introduced the president (Mr. C. O. Bell), who performed the opening ceremony for the Miramar Club. Mrs. Bell served the first balL Mr. J. L. MacDuff, chairman of the Wellington Lawn Tennis Association management committep, complimented the club on its competition successes. A dance! was held in the evening. •
