YESTERDAY'S INSPECTION

As a result of the public Inspection of the liner Awatea yesterday afterno6h a sum of between £75 ancl £80 has been collected for seamen's charities. Heavy rain fell during the day, ( but this did not deter the sightseers, and a crowd of approximately 8000 people visited the vessel and took the opportunity of admiring the many new features incorporated in her construction. '.''\ Today the Awatea was gaily bedecked with bunting for the Plunket Society function on board, the proceeds of which will be devoted to the funds of the society. Tomorrow there is to be a luncheon at "which a number of citizens will be entertained by the directorate of the company, and the vessel will leave for Auckland and Sydney tomorrow night. ■ .
