THE RUGBY TEST
MR. S. S. DEAN'S COMMENT
Mr. S. S. Dean, chairman of the New Zealand Rugby Union, was in Dunedin for the Test on Saturday, and he returned to Wellington yesterday by air. The All Blacks, he said, gave a very pleasing performance. After their comparatively poor display in Wellington the previous Saturday, : their play in Dunedin should do much to rehabilitate the. prestige of the team in view of the visit of the Springboks next year. The forwards played particularly well, being: more up to All Black standard than in Wellington. All played well, but he thought the best forward on the field was probably J. Wells (Wellington). The All Black back line functioned much better than in Wellington, said Mr. Dean. C. C. Gillies (Otago), after a somewhat shaky start, settled down nicely and brightened the attack pleasingly. G. F. Hart, N. A. Mitchell, and J, M. .Watt, the three-quarters, all did their part very^ well. The Australians played very well up to just a' bit after half-time,, he said. New Zealand then gained' the mastery, and the Australians appeared to become somewhat disconcerted, and towards the end" the game was very much in favour-of-the All Blacks;^ RANFURUY^SHiELD TEAM i ■\Vellington's,,.Ranfurly' l Shield team is. to leave ,pa its, southern tour on Wednesday night. v-The;players are.to have a,special;practi<;e at the Poneke gymnasium tomorrow night at 7.30 o'clock. J; Vartan (Foneke) has been added to the list of: players to train. '
