Dinner Party,
Mrs. N. B. Gibbons gave- a young people's dinner party for her debutante daughter, Joan, at her home, "Rangiaho," in Lower Hutt. In the diningand reception-rooms, golden colours predominated, Iceland poppies and marigolds making bright decorations. Mrs. Gibbons was wearing midnight blue satin shot with gold, .and blue and gold shoulder-spray to tone. Miss Joan Gibbons wore her debutante frock, white net over taffeta, finished with silver; and her sister, Miss Beth Gibbons, was in rainbow georgette. At the celebration dinner were.Mrs. Gibbons's sons, Messrs.. Lionel and Bill Gibbons, Misses Jean Fenwick, Molly Beedie, Barbara Skeet, Fee • EversSwindell, Pamela Paterson, Thelma Jones, Patricia Luckie, and Messrs. Kenneth King, Tom Harty, John Grainger,. Happy Hundred Club.
. The R.S.A. Club rooms were • pleasantly warmed and decorated for the dance of the "Happy Hundred Club" at Lower Hutt. Mrs. Lund was hostess for the occasion arid ■wore, a gown of black taffeta, relieved with ' old gold. The dancers included Mr. and Mrs. N. B. Gibbons (the 'latter in floral voile), Mr^ and Mrs. Hay (old gold sartin), Dr. and Mrs. Welton Hogg (rust matalasse), Mr. arid Mrs. Aim (white marocain), Mr. and' Mrs. Cantrell (emerald georgette), Captain and Mrs. Gentry (blue figured organdie), Mr. and Mrs. Ikin (midnight spangled georgette), Dr. and Mrs. Marchant (flame taffeta), Mr. and Mrs. Caverhill (black duvetyn), Mr. and-Mrs. Dalgleish (scarlet satin), Mr. and Mrs; E. W. Haldane, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Daniel (floral georgette), Mr. and Mrs. N. Horticultural Society.
Mr. W. Wilson had a most enthusiastic audience in-the Horticultural' Hall, Lower Hutt, when he gave a lecture upon native plants of the -flew Zealand bush to members of the Garden Circle, Horticultural Society.■'■• Mr. Wilson's address dealt with those natives of flower, berry, or "foliage beauty which are suitable for transplanting' into gardens. He described ?and exhibited specimens of seveial^the lilies (astelia family), irises, orchids;- flower-: ing, tall, and canopy trees; arid a large: variety of shrubs. The plants were obtainable through florists. Mr. Wil-; son concluded his. address with' the. exhibition of an unpolished; beauti-fully-marked and coloured box,'fashioned from woods of' New Zealand trees. .. ■. ' ■""' .; " ■'.' I"■ '-'■/,
Miss C. Fraser fulfilled the duties of secretary. Mesdames Gower,' S. M.' Hbbbs, and G. Reid, and Messrs. W. Wilson, W. Smith, and A. J. Nichblls were elected as the committee for the coming season.
