MAN STRUCK BY TRAIN

FATALITY AT TAURANGA

TAURANGA, This Day.

Roy Devon, aged 46, was fatally injured last night when he was struck by the Taneatua-Tauranga goods train on the harbour bridge and hurled into the harbour.

Devon was walking across the bridge to Matapihi and met the engine on a bend of the bridge. Before he had time to move he was struck. The accident was witnessed by several people, who went to Devon's assistance in boats. He was taken from the water to the town wharf, where he was attended by a doctor and sent to hospital, but he died in an ambulance on the journey. He had received extensive injuries to his right shoulder and side.

The deceased is survived by his wife. His parents live at Maketu.
