SUCCESSFUL CONCERTS
(By 'The Post's" Representative.);
Two similar performances, arranged by the Hutt Valley teachers of dancing and elocution to augment the Bebe Witts-Burt gift fund, were held in St. James Hall on Saturday afternoon and evening, and proved most successful.
With Miss Eva Draper as organiser, the teachers had arranged an excellent variety programme. The items included ballets, solo and duo dances, recitals, and character sketches, all by young pupils. Novelty items were given by the General Motors Harmonica Band, also by Mr. Rupert George (pianist), and: Mr. Burridge, who gave some amusing ventriloquism. The numbers were all clever and bright, making the performance a thoroughly enjoyable one. The accompanist for the afternoon and evening 'was Mrs. M. Smith, Mr. E. H. Muir acting as stage manager. At the conclusion, Miss Bebe WittsBurt thanked everyone for their generous support, and took the opportunity of bidding farewell to those who had done so much to help her. She will leave for England at the end of the month. . Kitchen Tea. Several happy little parties have been given by the friends of Miss Joan Welch before her approaching marriage. That given by Miss. Patricia Matthews at her home in Laing's Road recently, was in the form of a kitchen tea, the guests all arriving with the most exciting and useful gifts for a modern kitchen. After a cheery welcome the guests of honour spent some thrilling moments in opening parcels to disclose their contents,' all of which gave her much pleasure. A delicious morning tea was then- served. Those present included Misses Marjorie Hardcastle, Betty Kimbeil, Beth and Joan Gibbons, Mary Chesney, and Nanc#-£>lpherl,
