PORIRUA INSTITUTE
The annual meeting of the Porirua Women's Institute was held recently. Mrs. Ryan presided. A very satisfactory annual report and balance-sheet were presented.
The president spoke briefly of the year's work and thanked the members for their help. The drama and glee circles' reports were considered as proof of a very active year.
Two members of the Wellington Federation executive, Mrs. Hume and Mrs. Gibson Young, were present. The latter addressed the members on institute matters and on the origin and growth of the movement.
Points competition prizes were awarded, Mrs. Stewart gaining first, and Mrs. Nairn second prize. *
Presentations on behalf of the drama and glee circles were made to Mrs. Mathewson and Mrs. Ryan. Mrs. G. Young and Mrs. Hume were the recipients of small gifts, and the retiring committee members received flower sprays. Songs by the glee circle contributed to the social part of the programme.
The new committee was elected as follows: Mrs. Ryan (president), Mrs. Wright (hon. secretary), Mrs. Doddington (hon. treasurer), Mrs. Quill, Mrs. Hughes (vice-presidents), Mesdames D. Colley, J. Phillips, A. Stewart, and L. Thompson.
