SHIPPING OF FIIUIT

NELSON ARRANGEMENTS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) . NELSON, February 11. At a recent meeting of the Redwood's Valley Fruitgrowers' Association Mr. Carlyon, shipping supervisor, made a comprehensive statement on the shipping arrangements for fruit, and spared no pains to furnish the various details which were requested from him. His announcement of the probable first loading date in Wellington for Cox!s Orange created great interest, in view of the Hills Union desire foi immediate picking of this variety.' Cox's growers present were unanimous that the fruit would be better on the tree than in store and spoke strongly on the necessity for the Port Nelson pool to adopt a concerted line with this variety. It was finally resolved thai growers in this area be requested not to forward Cox's Orange until the 17th and that closer co-operation among Cox's growers be initiated. The meeting was also concerned over further details in shipping such as the indicated probability of the Cox's Orange crop: arriving within one week in the United Kingdom, the possibility of. early Dunns being consigned to the West Coast, and'also the rather early date for the first direct Nelson loading. It was agreed that the Advisory Board should go further into these questions, and Mr. Carlyon promised to assist in the matter The meeting showed considerable interest in the possibility of cool-storing Cox's Orange, lengthening the-selling season for this variety, and it. is like.y that action in this matter will be taken in the near future.
