BUILDING AT DUNEDIN

(By Telegraph) (Special to the "Evening Post.") DUNEDIN, This Day. Architects and builders in the city forecast bright prospects in the building industry this year, and declare that if all works contemplated are put under way Dunedin will experience a building boom. At present building construction in progress or proposed is estimated to have a value of about £500,000. For some time past the building trade has been experiencing considerably improved conditions, and this is reflected in the building permits granted by the City Council. In January 56 permits to the value of £21,068 were issued, as compared with .45 and £19,969 for the corresponding month last year and 42 and £14,865 for the same month in 1934. The total value of permits issued by the council since the beginning of the financial year on April 1 has now reached £283,444, which includes 11 permits to the value of £5669 already granted for the present month.

Two of the city's leading hotels are undergoing extensive alterations, one at a cost of £20,000. An active programme in the erection of new homes is being; prosecuted, and it is significant that ail of the permits valued at £500 and over issued in January related to domestic work. .
