STOKES VALLEY EIRE

OCCUPANTS' NARROW ESCAPE

A six-roomed house owned by Mrs. F. Staples, Mana Street, Vogeltown, occupied by Mr. Edward Torrey, his wife, and three children, and situated on the main "road, Stokes Valley, was totally destroyed with its contents by fire at 1.30 a.m. today, the occupants barely escaping in their night attire. They had just left the front of the buildintj when the rear portion collapsed.

The contents were insured at Lloyd's for £250. The insurance on the house has not yet been ascertained.

The cause of the fire is unknown. There is no fire-fighting plant or organisation in Stokes Valley, but in any case, the fire had too great a hold when discovered to be extinguished.
