SPORTING DECISION

M.C.C. v. POVERTY BAY

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, This Day. I A moderate westerly breeze was the' only factor which prevented conditions from being perfect for the resumption of the cricket match between Poverty Bay and the M.C.C. team. The M.C.C. batting order was changed to enable the tail-enders to have a strike and the result was that for a start wickets fell quickly. The captain, E. R. T. Holmes, was first to go, and after Lyttelton and Read had made a short stand four wickets fell for the addition of fifty runs. Human and Hardstaff, however, stopped the rot, the pair attacking the Poverty Bay slow bowlers and bringing a century up after 78 minutes. The score at lunch was 117 for five. Details:— POVERTY'BAY.
