SILVERSTREAM ACTIVITIES

i An enjoyable card evening, organ-! iseS by the Silverstream Women's Institute, was held at the residence of Captain and Mrs. Davies; Trentham, recently. Mr. Gillbanks was M.C., and "prizes were won ' by Mesdames Peggie and Baillie and Mr. Johnson. Supper' was served by the committee, and the proceeds of the evening were donated to the local District Nurse Fund.

, The Christmas meeting was presided over by Mrs. Spackman. Arrangements were finalised for the forthcoming children's party, after which 'the singing, circle sang two items. Afternoon tea was served, and the president cut the Christmas cake and extended season's greetings to all members. The remainder of the afternoon was spent' in games and social chat.' A competition for the.best Christmas gift.costing is was won by Mrs. Davies. The singing of the National Anthem brought the meeting to a conclusion.

■|- The annual garden party was held in the grounds of Captain and Mrs. Davies's residence. There was a busy scene atthe stalls, which were stocked with, cakes . and- confectionery ; (Mrs. Eckersley being in charge), arts and crafts (Mrs. Chapman Taylor), produce (Mrs. Kitchen), and "Hoop La" (.Misses Farrow and Castle). Several races and competitions were held, 'Mrs. Balfour winning the Christmas, cake, and Mrs. Kitchen a cloth. A dainty afternoon tea was served on the lawn. Mrs. Spackman was presented with a bouquet by Marjorie Eckersley.

Silverstream Hall was the scene of a happy gathering when the Women's Institute held their Christmas party for members', children. ■ About fifty chill dreh'werel entertained' with games, etc.,' and supper was served on decorated tables, each child receiving a carnival hat. The excitement reached its Ijeight after supper, when the curtain was drawn from the stage and revealed a beautifully-decorated Christmas tree and Father Christmas waiting there to distribute the gifts. .A competition for a doll's bed and quintuplets was won by Mrs. Buick. The evening. concluded with the singing of the National Anthem.
