School days being over for the year, the pupils of the Hutt Valley High School held a dance in their gymnasium to bid farewell tothose x who were leaving and to entertain the staff, a large number of the latter being present. -A dainty supper-was served, and bouquets were presented to the pupils who tyere leaving. Miss Beale, who is leaving shortly for England, was bidden farewell by the staff (of which she is a member), also by her.form and house. The staff gave her two beautiful books, and her form a suede purse and book cover. Benefit Garden Pary. . A garden party, organised by Mr. C. A. Browning and his staff, was held in the Waiwhetu school grounds, the effort being in aid of Bebe Witts Burt, the talented little dancer, who has won a scholarship entitling her to "a year's free, tuition in England. Bebe Witts Burt is a pupil of the Waiwhetu School. Lady Roberts and the Mayoress (Mrs. J. W. Andrews) judged a grand fancy dress-parade, prizes being awarded to the following:—Best costume, Joan Langdon, 1; Susan Dallison, 2. Most original, lan Gunn, l; Douglas Benefield, 2. Special prizes, Fred StunneU and Sydney Wainscott. The stalls were in charge of the teachers, members of the Home and School Association, and helpers. Afternoon tea was- served in one of the small classrooms, which was : decorated with height iceland poppies, radio music being supplied. The finals of the school sports were decided during the afternoon, and there were several competitions for the children. Epuni Kindergarten. Every child of the Epuni Kindergarten attended the Christmas party, which was' held in the Birch Street Hall, Thirty tiny chairs were placed in a circle in the middle of the hall for the little folk, while red and white chain streamers were draped from wall to wall, and bunches of balloons hung' fr.om them. Action songs and recitations were joined in with wholehearted feelings. A "Maori canoe" song was very .well performed by small girls, and five sturdy boys caused much amusement with a haka. Pretty bouquets were presented to Miss Werry's assistants. Miss Werry (principal) spoke on the kindergarten work and thanked all who had helped her during the year. The big event of the evening was the appearance of Father Christmas. Before the children received their presents from the tree, all the parents were given calendars and.book-markers. Low green tables were set for supper- for the children, and tea was served to th egrown-ups.
