BRITISH MIGRATION
REFERENCE IN COMMONS
SURVEY MOTION TO BE
DEBATED
(Received December 10, 9 a.m.)
LONDON, December 9,
The "Morning Post" says that Conservative back-benchers after the election discussed efforts to force immediate measures in order to restore migration to the Dominions, resulting in Sir John Birchall tabling an amendment to the Address-in-Reply motion regretting that the King's Speech did not refer to the need for the immediate preparation of migration plans. Captain Macnamara, who was elected for Chelmsford, tabled a resolution which will be debated on December 18 urging a survey of the possibilities of restarting migration, and also the establishment of an Empire Settlement Board to examine all schemes for organised settlement and recommend to Parliament any methods to assist the redistribution of population within the Empire.
Captain Macnamara is already assured of substantial support.
