ROSE SHOW

There was a large attendance on Wednesday at the Rose Show, when Mrs. Knox Gilmer performed the opening ceremony, and expressed keen pleasure at seeing such a wonderful display of lovely flowers.
11l the adjourning hall, afternoon tea was served by an energetic committee of ladies. At the top of the hall a long table had been set for the official party, with beautiful bowls, of roses down the centre. Mrs. D. S. Patrick (president) and Mrs. Patrick invited a number of guests to tea among whom were Mrs. Knox Gilmer,' Mesdames Kersley, S. M. Hobbs, Brodie, Simu, Arlow, W. Allen, Andrews, F. Young, N. B. Gibbons, Brodie, Mr. Brodie, Mr. Nicholls, Mr. J. Poole, Dr. Whitton, Mr N. B. Gibbons. A beautiful "novelty" stall caused great interest, also a remarkable native flora stall arranged by Mr. Helyer. Mr. Patrick announced that the "Hydrangea" committee in the '"Floral Carnival" was, so far, in the lead. Among others present were Mr. and Mrs. N. Millard, Mr. and Mrs. Savage, Mesdames Mason,' Ewen, Young, Hooson, Gillies, Fauvell, Cornfoot (Feilding), Wilkinson, Reid, Staverly, Handyside, Gower, Stoupe, Butt, McBain, Witcher, Bock, F. Stoupe (jun.), Knox, La Roche. Hansell, Vagg, Kettle, Gordon, H. Mitchell, J. Mitchell. A Happy Party. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Bayly gave a delightful party in honour 'of their son, Malcolm, recently. They received and welcomed their many guests, Mrs. Bayly wearing a charming gown of floral georgette. An orchestra supplied excellent music, and enjoyable items were given, including . exhibitions of modern dancing by Winsome and Mervyn Smith (pupils of Miss Eva Draper), a humorous song by Mr. Parsons, and a ventriloquist turn by Mr. C. Burridge and his doll "Sammy." Mr. J. Mair was. M.C. A room beautifully decorated with Iceland poppies had been prepared for supper, and Mr. McKenzie "proposed the health of the guest of honour and his parents, to which Mr. M. Bayly replied. A very happy evening was brought to a 'close by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
