CAMPAIGN NOTES

VOTE-SPLITTING •?

"Recently suggestions have been made by. anonymous writers to the papers that Mr. Duncan and myself should withdraw in order to give the National condidate a chance to defeat Labour," said Mr. W. J. Gaudin, Independent candidate for Wellington East, at Miramar last night.

"I refuse to accept any responsibility for so-called vote-splitting. The responsibility, if any, lies with the National Party. I stated last night that Wellington North and Otaki were in the same category, but I now understand that that is not the case in Wellington North. I do not wish to misrepresent the position, but it certainly applies in Wellington East and Otaki."
