COMMUNIST PARTY
A successful meeting was held by the Communist Party at the corner of Onepu Road and Coutts Street last evening. The candidate, Miss Rawcliffe, was attentively listened to by a good crowd for about an hopr. Miss Rawcliffe pointed out that those parties which claimed to represent all sections of the community must necessarily sacrifice the interest of the workers to the interest of the owning class. The Labour Party claimed that they would control credit if returned to power, and would thus equate qurchasing power with production, enabling the workers to buy the goods they had produced. "They do not propose to abolish the system of 'production for profit,'" Miss Rawcliffe added. "They will allow the private owner still to exploit the worker at the point of production, and failing to explain that the worker can only buy back that portion of production equalled by his wages. Wages can only increase at the expense of profit, and profit at the expense of wages, the worker receives approximately one-third of the wealth he produces, and can only buy that amount. The Labour Party proposed by a system of inflation under the name of controlled credit to deceive the worker into believing that he will receive a more equitable share of New Zealand production."
At the invitation of the ladies' auxiliary of the Douglas Credit Movement, Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell addressed a well-attended meeting of ladies at the rooms, Lambton Quay, on Thursday afternoon. A novelty was provided inasmuch questions were barred, and the audience followed closely the candidate's explanation of the aims of the National Party, and its methods of handling the problems raised by the world depression.
