NO CONNIVANCE

"Is it correct that you offered to toss a coin with the Independent candidate (Mrs. Knox Gilmer) in order to prevent vote-splitting?" was a question put to Mr. C. A. L. Treadwell, Nationalist candidate for Wellington North, at his meeting in the Sturdee Hall, Ghuznee Street, last night.

"The Independent candidate and I," said Mr. Treadwell, "had the opportunity of going to selection before the joint committee of the Reform and United interests. The Independent candidate said she wanted the support of the Government, but was not prepared' to say she would support it. I was in the field nine months before she was nominated. All these facts I know she will not deny. We have a letter from Her to the effect that she would like the support of the Government but was not prepared to say that she would support it on a noconfidence motion."
