ADDRESS PRESENTED
VERY REV. J. DICKIE, D.D.
An address containing a special minute which had been adopted by the General. Assembly during the week was presented to the Very Rev. Principal J. Dickie, D.D., by ministers and lay members of the Presbyterian Church on Saturday night to mark the attainment of Dr. Dickie's silver jubilee year. The presentation was made at a dinner, at which over one hundred were present.
High tributes were paid to Dr. Dickie"s personal qualities, his affection for and interest in his students at the Theological Hall, and his encyclopaedic knowledge. The speakers were the Rev. Dr. J. D. Salmond, the Rev. R. S. Watson, Mr. W. H. Rose, the Rev. D. C. Herron, M.A.. and the Moderator, the Very Rev. H. H. Barton, M.A.
Replying with deep feeling. Dr. Dickie said his primary object had been to make God a very real force in the lives of the students who had come under him and to help them to realise their duty to their fellow-men. Although because of the march of theological study the past twenty-five years had been strenuous, his work had been an unbounded joy. Dr. Dickie expressed appreciation of the opportunity given him of travelling abroad next year. He said he hoped to make contact with some of the great theologians so that he could return with wider knowledge to be dedicated to the service of the church.
