FERSEN TARANAKI'S HOPE
Since the war Taranaki horses have ;. not played a very prominent port in i the decisions of the New Zealand Cup B at Riccarton. They had enjoyed their a full share of success at Ellerslie and c Trentham, but Riccarton has not proved a happy hunting ground. Solid : . stayers in'Yoma and Muraahi, both by a Carbine's son Campflre. made assaults r in vain, but in 1925 the Hawera trainer c O. Cox was successful with Mr. H. E. Card's Kilbroney four-year-old The n Banker, who triumphed after a slash- ;_ ing finish with two good horses in Te it Kara and Count Cavour. ,f The province has only a single ree presentalive in Saturday's race, and ,j; this is Mrs. \V. D. Graham's four-year--3_ old Fersen. also trained by Cox at rt Hawera. Mrs. Graham entertained high n hopes with that good son of Potoa. Te » i Monanui. in 1927, but two miles was too far for him. and he faded out of the picture over the final stages. It now remains to be seen whether the feat can be achieved by Fersen, who, it is interesting to note, was a stablemate of this year's Melbourne Cup winner Marabou until his purchase for the Dominion twelve months ago.
