THREAT TO AORANGI
SEAMEN DECIDE ON ACTION
SAILING DATE FIXED
SYDNEY, October 29,
A repetition of the trouble experienced in manning the Niagara now threatens the Aorangi, which is completing dn overhaul here and is due to sail for Vancouver on November 7.
The Sydney branch of the Seamen's Union today held a meeting and discussed the Niagara's recent departure with a volunteer crew, and then determined on a course of action in regard to the Aorangi. It is unofficially stated that the men intend to insist on the same guarantees as in the case of the Niagara, and that they will also demand the dismissal of the volunteer crew when the Niagara returns.
It is understood that the Union Steam Ship Company and representatives of "the Seamen's Union have now opened negotiations -which it is hoped will end the whole dispute
The Union. Company announces that the Aorangi will sail on the scheduled date, November 7, and possibly a call for a crew will be made next week. The stewards are ready to sail, despite the seamen's edict, as in. the case of the Niagara.
