LONDON, October 13.
The members of the touring New Zealand Rugby football team have been greatly impressed by the warmth of the welcome they have received from all over Scotland, and have been amazed at the hospitality which has been offered them. Many who have been invited to stay at Scottish homes have been unable to accept owing to the rule that the team must not be dispersed. A member of the team admired a pullover worn by an official-at Hawick and the Scot immediately took if off and presented it to the All Black. The team during the weekend visited Melrose and other ruined abbeys and historic scenes of border affrays. They were delighted to find that in many parts the countryside, especially the gorges, streams, anxThills were reminiscent of New Zealand. : Nevertheless both the manager (Mr. V. R. Meredith) and the players are most perturbed over the mediocrity of the last two games. They feel that despite the injuries and experiments they ought to do better, but are uni able to discover exactly what is wrong beyond the fact that only a few of the players have reproduced their home form. This was earlier attributed to lack of condition, but that should by now have been remedied. The All Blacks are especially worried over the failure of their scrum. It is believed^ that ■ Mr.. Meredith, will eventually try a 3-2-3 formation. "MYSTERIOUS INEPTITUDE."' "The Times" says: "The .AH-Black forwards' mysterious ineptitude in the scrums is threatening the morale of the backs who were no more effective than the forwards against the South of Scotland. The All. Blacks did little when they got the .ball and any" firstclass pair of halves would have beaten them on their own. Fortunately for the New Zealanders the South of Scotland pack made the fatal mistake of not keeping the match -a forward battle. If, they had done so the AH Blacks would have been beaten as decisively as at Swansea."-
