LONG DRY SPELL ENDS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

TIMARU, October 7.

After a long spell of fine weather, [during which hot north-westers parched up the countryside and brought about a scarcity of feed, the weather changed suddenly today and rain fell. Unfortunately, the total fall was only about 115 points of an inch, and not nearly sufficient to do much good in the counI try, which could stand an inch or i more. Conditions are still overcast, and there is a likelihood of a further fall.
