AUSTRALIA'S SURPLUS

FOURTH IN SUCCESSION

MORE THAN £700,000

1 CANBERRA, July 5. Budget figures for the year just ended show a surplus of more than £700,000. This is the fourth successive surplus that the Lyons Government has announced, bringing the accumulated surplus to nearly £7,000,000. This year's surplus has been achieved after paying £3,300,000 for wheat relief, for which no provision was made in the Budget.

The financial improvement in the Commonwealth is mainly due to th« buoyant Customs and excise revenue, which was approximately £4,000,000 in excess of the estimate^
