PRISONER'S BID FOR FREEDOM

SYDNEY, This Day* - Making a dash for freedom.; from Parramatta- Gaol, a handcuffed -prisoner paid,no heed to a fusillade of shota and was1 only captured after a long chase.

A young man who was serving a long sentence was being brought from a country gaol under escort of two warders. He was about to enter Parramatta Gaol gates when suddenly he pulled himself free and fled. Six shots were fired, but the prisoner continued to race along the road. A dozen warders took up the chase and the man was eventually .overtaken..
