WELLINGTON TROTS
HUTT PARK PREPARATIONS
■ . i-!| ;|By "Eingatira;") .:- >' ■,: Preparations ire* now fairly.' complete for the Wellington Trotting Club's February Meeting at Hutt Park on Saturday, and the officials of. the s club are well satisfied -with the average size and quality of the fields accepted. The weather is overcast today, and there was .a passing light shower of rain^at- the/cours? ; shortly before 8 o'clock this morning, ; but there is no immediate prospect of the present fine spell's ending before the weekend. Given the fine weather promised, the racing on Saturday should be of a high standard, and easy'Ho watch and to follow because of the handy size -, of the, fields. Half the programme will be started from in front of the stands, giving the public a good preliminary view of the horses. A change in the selling arrangements on-the totalisator will provide for the issuing of 10s tickets as well as 5s tickets to the outside public. All inside windows in the west house will still sell 5s tickets, and, 10s, £1, and £5 tickets will be sold from the east house. V ~;-... . v ''• The racing willi commence * at'112:30 p.m., and the other events will follow at 1.12, 1.54; 2.36, 3.18, 4.0, 4.42, and 5.24 p.m. The totalisator-will be closed sharp to time. . ... > No visiting; horses: have yet arrived at the Park, and the work this morning was confined to' half a dozen of the local candidates,. who did tHeir trials on the. outside of the course proper. *' ■■ ~'■,. ;. The trotters, Guy o' Mine and Derby Thorpe were associated over two miles. The former attempted to stand' the latter up 60yds, their handicap difference, but failed tovdo so by? a length. Both horses trotted well.J \ ". f.- • ; i>' Purser, Flintlock, Guy Zolock. Jean Psrrish, and the maiden Trevor de Oro then joined in> a test over 1J miles. Flintlock led out from Trevor de Oro, Jean Parrish, Guy Zolock, and Purser, but at the end of half a mile. Guy Zolock raced through to Flintlock. Guy Zolock Hva's'first 3nto the straight, with Purser to move up on the outside;i^arid Purser finished too well, for his opponents, beating Flintlock and Guy Zolock by a 'ength. with Trevor de Oro handy, and Jean Parrish tailed off. Purser is a much better class horse than his trial opponents, but his effort showed him to be well despite his lack-of recent racing. Jean' Parrish returned to the track later and went over another mile and a auarter alone. *\; ; -\-)./i \ The trotter Blue and Gold was the last of Saturday's candidates to'work, being trotted over a mile and a half. She went solidly all the way without a break;:l She has not raced recently and the-mile, and a half of the opening trot on Saturday will be quite far enough for her. ; - The only brackets in Saturday's races will be.Derby Thorpe and Guy o' Mine in the Koro Kbro Trot, and Casino and Pluto in the Suburban Handicap.
