Light drizzling showers fell at Riccarton while the early work was in progress this morning, but they had no effect on the tracks. After breakfast the weather was-fine. The.plough was a trifle holding, and most of the galloping was done outside the course proper! This), was'the track used except where otherwise mentioned.
Chidden did?six furlongs on the plough in lmin 19sec, and Fracas and Knockout a mile in lmin 45 3-ssec, Bun Fight half a mile in 50 l-ssec, Back Thrust aiid> Silly Owl six furlongs in lmin 21sec; Penelope half a mile easily in 52 3-ssec, Astaraea and Owlsgleam half a mile along the back in 51 4-ssec, Cleaner half a mile in 52 l-ssec, Desirable six furlongs on the plough in lmin 19 v 4-ssec, Bella Rosa six furlongs in lmin 17 2-ssec, and Polydora and Minerval a mile on the plough in lmin 44 3-ssec. .
Scratchmere Scar, with' a lightweight, covered six furlongs .with Nightly on the plough in lmin 15 4-5 sec, the former holding his'companion. Jerry Boy did a mile on the plough in lmin 48sec. \
Abdication beat Greek Shepherd over half a mile in 49 l-ssec. Knowledge covered five furlongs on the plough in lmin Bsec. Quebec easily? beat Marquillo and Lady Lucas over five furlongs in lmin 5 l-ss6c. Tout le Monde beat Sky Rover over seven furlongs in lmin 31 4-ssec. Invoice did half a mile easily in 52 4-ssec, and Silver Sight seven furlongs in lmin 32 l-ssec, beating Colossian, who joined in for the last six furlongs, Azevedo beat Lady Nan over half a mile along the back in 50 l-ssec.
Silver Ring did six furlongs on the plough in lmin 18 l-ssec. Grand Review beat Lucetta over half a mile in 50 3-ssec. ■ ■ . '
Moonbeam, assisted by Liberate, ran half a mile' in 51sec. . Emissary was brought home by Novice, his stablemate, after doing half a mile brilliantly, the tii^e; being 48 :l-ssec. Souttidown did'six-furlongsi in lmin 19 1-Ssec/Hos-tile assisting over the last half-mile in 52 4-ssec. Madam Pompadour ran half a mile along the back in 514-ssec, Frenchy assisting over the first.three furlongs. Ranelagh ran seven'furlongs on the plough in lmin 32sec.
Riptide, Gas Mask, and Rotokino were together at the end of half a mile in 50 l-ssec.
