PLEASANT GATHERING
ENGLISH-SPEAKING UNION
The charming rooms of the Reform Club, with comfortable chairs, informally arranged, made a pleasant setting^, for the meeting of the English-speaking Union, there las,t night. "* The Mayor, Mr. T. C. A. Hislop, the new president, was welcomed by Mr. H. G. Miller, chairman of the executive, and occupied th,e chair. Mr. Hislop thanked the union for the honour conferred on him, and spoke briefly of the ideals of the English-speaking Union. Mr. Hislop then introduced M# Frank Milner, C.M.G., M.A., who spoke on "Anglo-American Understanding and its Necessities and Possibilities."
* A musical programme, including songs by Misses Myra Sawyer, Edna Purdie, and Mr. Binet Brown, and'violin solos by Mrs. Eric Meier, was greatly appreciated. Miss Ormie Reid played the accompaniments. A deliciou^ supper, which gave opportunity for interesting discussion brought a very pleasant? gathering to a close.
