RAWHITI CLUB

Although the season opened some weeks ago, Labour Day was the start of activities at the Rawhiti Tennis Club. An allday Yankee tournament was held, 22 members taking part. Results to the seventh round ended with Buxton and Mrs. Stevens leading with 7 sets, with Dunn and Mrs. Dunn second, G wins, 1 loss. The draw for partners resulted in the only two married couples, Mr. and Mrs. Petrie and Mr. and Mrs. Dunn, being drawn together. A most enjoyable day was- spent socially, tennis taking second place while 'members thoroughly enjoyed lunch iin picnic style. The ladder is now open, and players arc showing keen enthusiasm in anticipation of inter-club games in which three grades are being entered —third, fourth, and fifth. Ranking matches are at present in progress as a guide to the selectors, but the third teams will probably come from the five members holding top places on the ladder, namely. Miss Box, Mrs. Dunn, Misses. Cootcs. Moore, and Irvine, and, in the men's, McGregor, Fulford, Buxton, Dunn, and Petrie. The fourth and fifth teams will give the .selectors more thinking, as quite good early-season form is being shown, especially among two or three new members, who should with perseve'rence go quite a long way.
