At the rosiest of. delegates, it was decided to continue those concessions until Thursday afternoon, November 1, up to which time seats may be booked by afhhatcd players at the office of the honorary secretary. -Mr Miintell-lliirdinii. ]'rofcssor !•'. V. Wilson lias been appointed referee for the exhibition matches. The arrangements made for line umpires were outlined, it being explained that these positions were being allotted to members of affiliated clubs. I'our three-set international exhibition matches will be played on each day, and play will commence at 1.30 p.m. on each day. INTER : CLUB MATCHES. It was reported that a record number of entries bail boon received for the intcfclub matches at Miramar. Mr. P. Henry (Miramar Grounds) urged the management committee to have the second division grade constituted. He said that at present there were many clubs that hesitated to enter teams in this grade, due to the likelihood of them being advanced to first division. It was explained that this season only one team had entered in this grade, and this team had.been given the option of either being put up or put down one division. An assurance was given that next season every endeavour would be mado to constitute a second division women's competition. Duo to the popularity of the grass courts at Miramar, it has been decided to proceed with the laying down of an additional six courts, and these will be ready for play next season. The grass court season will open next Saturday, November 3, at Miramar, when the first round o£ the inter-club match.es will be played. An alteration was made to the inter-club competition rules to provide that where a division is divided into more than two sections the ultimate winner of the division would be determined by playing each section against the winners of every other section, instead of determining the champion team, on the knock-out principle. AFFILIATION. The quarterly report indicates that four additional clubs have affiliated to the association, making an increase of 355 affiliated players. , ' On behalf of the management committee, Mr. Cooper explained what was being done to* improve the standard of women's tennis in Wellington. During this season, as was done last season, ranking matches will be held at Miramar, to which clubs are. to be invited to send their promising junior lady players. A certain amount of coaching is done at these matches, and the players are given an opportunity of three-set match practice on grass courts against the members of other clubs.
