TWO COASTAL WRECKS

The smali schooner Ocean Queen, of 10 tons, was reported by Pilot Holmes as being ashore in Worser Bay, abreast of the Pinnacle, stated "The Post" of October IS, 1884. The previous night she had anchored in Worser Bay. Her chain parted in the early hours of the morning, and she drove ashore, later filling up with water. It was expected that she would be considerably damaged. Her crew of two escaped unharmed.

The ketch Opotiki ran on a sunken rock off Mercury Bay, and became a total wreck. She had a cargo of maize.

| After a good passage of 84 days, the 11124-ton ship. Marlborough arrived 'at Port Chalmers from London oh October 12, 1884. She had a very rough trip, and her main yard was carried away early on the voyage.* Three boats were smashed, as well as other damage being done. left Sydney on October 18, 1884, for New Guinea, in order to declare formally the- British protectorate.
