MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Cases in the Magistrate's Court today were dealt with by Mr. J. Miller, S.M.
Bail in the sum of £150 with a surety of a like amount was granted to Lee Fong, aged 47, a gardener, who was further remanded until next Wednesday on a ehargeof assaulting Carl Mafeking Hertz so as to cause him actual bodily harm.
A further remand until November 7 was granted in the case of Reginald Howan, aged 37, a labourer, who is charged with obtaining £379 10s from E. N. Sutherland by false pretences. Bail was renewed. Albert Edward Way, aged 46, a canvasser, was remanded until October 30 on a charge of obtaining credit to the extent of £91 lls 9d from Royds Bros, and King, Ltd., without informing them that ho was an undischarged bankrupt. Bail was granted in the cum of £75 with one surety of £75. John Farnah, aged 40, a greaser on the Monowai, who did not appear, was fined £3, the amount of his bail, for assaulting Rose Rattray. Half the fine is to go to her. . , . A sentence of two months imprisonment, to be served concurrently with a shorter term she is already serving, was imposed upon Olive Muriel Goodwin, aged 34, a married woman, who pleaded guilty to' a charge of obtaining from H. J. Eatwell, at Carterton, goods valued at £1 lls lid and £4 15s in money by a valueless cheque. Detective-Sergeant T. Y. Hall said that the woman had been in trouble before. Mr. J. Meltzer appealed for leniency on her behalf. A like charge against George Goodwin, aged 35, a station manager, was withdrawn.
