AN AFTERNOON PARTY

LADY CARNCROSS "AT HOME"

There was a very pleasant gathering of friends in the rooms of the Speaker of tho Legislative Council yesterday afternoon, when Lady Carneross and her daughter were "at, home."

A feature was the grouping of beautiful conservatory plants on the tables, which were supplemented with palms and ferns, interspersed with vases of fine irises and other flowers —these were all a pleasure to flower lovers.

Lady Carncross wore a handsome reception frock of black crepe patterned with cream-tinted design picked out with leaf green, and a necklet to match. Miss Carncross was in a smart gown of black ninou, with a panelled skirt and puffed sleeves of striped black and white aerophane.

A dolieious tea, with sweet and savoury accompaniments was served, and ■with much friendly conversation the afternoon passed most pleasantly.

Coate?, Lady Statham, Lady McGavin, Lady Luke, Mrs. Sprott, Mrs. Knox Giliner, Miss Downic Stewart, Mrs. and Miss Elliott, Mrs. and Miss Snodgrass, Mrs. E. A. Ransom, Mrs. McSkimming, Mrs. J. Nash, Madamo Merlin, Mrs. C. M. Bothamley, Mrs. H. H. Sterling, Mrs. J. A. Doctor, Mrs. Marshall Macdonald, Mrs. J. O'Shea, Mrs. C. Weston, Mrs. Lawson, Mrs. A. Wylie, Misses MacGregor, Mrs. G. H. P. Davidson, Mrs. Ansell, Mrs. Holland (Christchurch), Mrs. Moore (Dunedin), Misses Halse, Mrs. Waddell, Mrs. C. Martin, "Mrs. Bennie, Mrs. MeCallum (Blenheim), and Misa Nicolls.
