BASKETBALL GAMES
TROPHIES PRESENTED
The Winter Show building was tho scene of a very cheery gathering last night to mark the close of the Wellington Basketball Association's 1934 season. Those present were addressed by Mrs. J. G. Coates, patroness of tho New Zealand Basketball Association, Mrs. H. D. Muir, president of the N.Z. 8.A., and Miss M. E. Armstrong, president of tho AVe.llington Association. During the evening various games were played, and much excitement was caused by a match played between the referees and the executive which resulted in a win for the executive by 2 goals to 1. A "grand march" followed, led by three pipers and players and referees paraded before the official party. ■ '
Mrs. Coates, in a. short speech, congratulated the winners, referring especially to the Wellington representative team which won the cup at the New Zealand championship meeting. She then handed the captain of the executive team a wooden spoon as a reward for the victory over the referees. Each member of the team was presented with a. miniature spoon and much amusement was caused by the executive handing members of the referees' tgam small packets of sweets. Mrs. Muir presented the trophies won during the season as follows: —
