Tho interest being stirred in the coming season's cricket was evidenced at the annual meeting of the Kilbirnie Cricket Club on Monday, there being a record gathering, presided over by Canon J. H. Sykes, in the unavoidable absence of Mr. J. J. Clark (president). The animal report and balance-sheet, details of which have been published in "The Post," were adopted. It was mentioned by Mr. J. H. Phillipps that while the winning of the senior championship by the club's first eleven last season had been an achievement, the circumstances under which the success had been achieved would cause the event to figure long in the annals of the club. Another successful feature of the season's activities had been the reduction of the club's debt by nearly £40.
Thirteen naw playing members were elected, among them C. Parsloe, formerly of Wellington College Old Boys.
Rules for the club were adopted. Royal blue and red are named as the club colours, and the club captain and .the chairman of the management committee are now to be one person. A vote of thanks to Messrs. J. Reid and D. W. Virtue for drafting the rules was passed.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patron, Mr. W. J. Gaudiu; president, Mr. J. J. Clark; vice-presidents, those on the list last season, with the addition of Messrs. W. H. Bailey, J. Cassey, and C. Sullivan; club captain and chairman of the management committee, Mr. J. H. Phillipps; hon. secretary, Mr. D. W. Virtue; treasurer, Mr. N. T. Gillespie; auditor, Mr. R. Marshall: management committee, Messrs. A. Donoghue, M. Bilby, J. Reid, H. G. Rice, W. Toomer, C. Fear, and S. Ward; classification committee, Messrs. S. Ward, M. Bilby, and H. G. Rice; trustees, Messrs. V. N. Christophersen and S. Eaton; delegates to the Wellington Cricket Association. Messrs. J. H. Phillipps, H. G. Rice, W. Phillipps, and A. Donoghue. Mr. H. G. Rice was elected a life member on the motion of Mr. -T. H. Phillipps, seconded by Mr. W. Phillipps. The mover said Mr. Rice had given great service over a long period and possessed most of the attributes that made him an ideal man in the government of the sports body.
