EXCHANGE AND TARIFF

Sir, —Your correspondent, "Consumer," draws a certain inference from ray remark that manufacturers are pleased to know where they stand in regard to exchange by^ having somo "certainty" about its future. But "Consumer" is not very good at drawing inferences; and in this instance he has di'awn. the wrong one. Tho correct inference is that, with future exchange definitely settled for a reasonable period, manufacturers can now estimato ahead just how much their imported materials, will. cos# them. If "Consumer" wishes to learn tho relation, between exchango and protection, ho should study tho report of the Tariff I Commission. —I ani,' etc., , A. E. MANDER. I
